Clonard Community Safety Project

This project was set up to help young men discuss ways to feel safer within their own community.

The young men came together and approached their youth worker to help them deal with a recent death within the community. The young men wanted to put togther ideas on how they could help the younger generation in the community to look out for themselves and their friends.

This group of young men we all aged between sixteen and eighteen years old.

The group came up with the idea of making a poster that could be displyed in places where young people could see and the idea of the poster was to try and encourage young people to stay out of danger and if they were in danger where they could go to to get help and support.

The group were buzzing with ideas and were very enthusiastic about the poster. In no time at all the young men had designed their own poster which was sent to the printers to be printed off. The posters were amazing and are displyed in the youth centre and other places within the area.

As well as putting together the poster the young men also used the fund from the Big Deal to renovate one of the rooms within the youth centre. The young men wanted their own space and somewhere to chill out without younger members. The idea of renovating a room in the youth centre was to attract older members to use the facilities offered to them.
