Boys 'R' Us

Boys 'R' Us
The Boys 'R' Us Project was set up to encourage young men that use the youth centre to get involved in an educative programme as well as the recreational activities they are involved in such as football, table tennis, playstation and computers.

The young men had never been involved in project work before so we worked alot on team work skills, group work skills and individual interpersonal skills. The young men in this project got really involved in this project and made a true commitment.

The young men carried out different issue based workshops which included Community Awareness, Young Men's Issues and Sports. The particpants enjoyed collecting photos of interesting places from their own area and discussing the area in which they live in. The boys also enjoyed talking and listening to eachother when they explored the topic of Young Men's Issues. Alot of learning was achieved during these sessions. Their favourite educational activity was when they explored the Countries from the Euro 2008 football.

To add to the excitement of this programme, the young men also enjoyed two residential experiences to Delamont Outdoor Education Centre.

The outcomes of this project were very positive. The participants had matured alot over a few months and became very appreciative of the youth centre. Relationships between the boys themselves had developed and also the relationships with the youth workers. The young men were very proud of themselves as they got alot of praise and feedback throughtout this project. This was a very enjoyable group to work with and all boys are a credit to themselves and to their families.
